Emergency Contraception In cases of emergency following unprotected sex or if, for example, a condom has burst, pregnancy can be prevented by taking PC4 tablets. These have to be taken within three days (72 hours) of unprotected intercourse. These treatments are available from your GP or the Accident and Emergency department at most local hospitals. The method involves taking two pills, followed 12 hours later by a further two pills. Side effects may include nausea and vomiting. If you are sick within 2-3 hours of taking the pills, two replacement pills can be taken. |
