Poisoning

Poisons can be taken in through the mouth by eating/drinking poisonous berries, household bleaches or other poisonous substances;  through the lungs  by glue sniffing or breathing in fumes from heaters or through the skin by absorbing some weedkillers, or by injection with drug misusers.

Signs of poisoning may include:

¨      difficulty in breathing or unconsciousness

¨      vomiting and/or diarrhoea

¨      confusion or drowsiness

¨      fits

¨      burns around the mouth

Treatment

Remove to fresh air if due to smoke or fumes

Dial 999 or contact doctor immediately

NOTE: 

 Keep all medicines and dangerous substances out of children’s reach.

Only store poisonous substances in their original containers.

If at all possible, keep any containers for examination by the emergency services as this may aid subsequent treatment.
