Upton Group Practice

PPG Meeting held on Monday 19 September 2011

Present  Mr Peter McQueen, Mr Peter Daniel, Mrs Elaine Mc Bride, Mr John Coleman. Dr Gina Annett,  Dr Helen Kini,  Amanda Baker -  Practice Nurse, Christine Pengelly - Office Manager.

Apologies were noted from Mr Alan Jinks, Mr Leslie Stewart and Mr Adrian Jones.

 1.       It was discussed that the patient Questionnaire would be given out this year to the patients in October and that the same format would be used.   A query was raised on the time scale for the patients to complete the questionnaires.  (Afternote – the survey runs until the viable number of questionnaires for analysis has been completed for each clinician – the guideline is 40 per clinician for a valid cross section.) Each member of the Group was given a sample copy of the 2008 CFEP (Client Focused Evaluation Programme).

 2.       It was noted that the Iplato service to the patients was working well and the group was made aware that we will be using the Iplato system this year to message patients under 65’s “at risk”groups for their Flu Injections at no extra cost to the Practice.

 3.       The new INR appointment system was discussed and it was regarded to be a great success.  The new clinic has now freed up appointment time in the usual phlebotomy clinics.

 4.       PBC Savings.   The group was advised that the surgery has use of  savings of £4,896.  Advice had been given by Infection Control that we should upgrade the sinks in the clinical treatment rooms.  The PPG agreed with this decision. It was asked what month of the year the PBC savings ran from.  (Afternote – Savings were notified to practices at the end of July 2011, costed plans for use have to be submitted to the PCT by 30 November and reimbursements claimed by 31 March 2012.)

 5.       It was suggested that surgery could have an In House Podiatry Service.   The Group were advised that due to the lack of treatment rooms this would not be possible.

 6.       PBC Meeting Tuesday 13th September.    Mr Peter McQueen had been unable to attend the meeting due to ill health.   He will e-mail the details from that meeting to the practice.

 7.       A review of the patient suggestions was discussed briefly and a copy was given to each member of the group of the suggestions and responses that have been documented from January to June 2011.  It was noted that at the previous meeting the front doors to Reception had been discussed and it was suggested again that maybe there could be a wider opening to the front door for easier access for wheelchairs.

 8.       The online appointment system was discussed and it was noted that the Group felt it was helpful to the patients that they could also order their prescriptions online.  The Group and Staff thought that the use of the surgery website could be used for the surgery newsletter along with the virtual PPG.   This was thought to be a good idea for young mums and housebound patients.

 9.       Practice Nurse Amanda Baker along with Dr Tom Partridge are the co-ordinators for the Practice for the End of Life Pathway.  There was a lengthy discussion of the benefits to the patients and their families in the community that this service offers.

 10.   It was discussed that there did not appear to be many patients in the PPG.   It was suggested that maybe in general the majority of the patients were happy with the service Upton Group Practice provides.

 11.   It was suggested that there was not a facility for patients at the front desk to discuss any private or intimate issues.  The Group were informed that if need be a patient would be asked if they would like to use a Consultation room if available.   It was also suggested that maybe a booth or canopy could be put over the side of reception so patients could speak more privately

 12.   The Group were advised that if they had any suggestions or queries before the next meeting that they could ring or contact the Practice.

There being no other business to discuss the meeting ended at 1.25pm
